Salsa is a very structured dance, as with all Latin couple’s dances, and a fusion of them all but it mainly derives from cha cha and Mambo mixed into one melting pot. In fact Salsa literally means ‘Sauce’ hot and spicy!
Connection
Salsa is a partner dance that thrives on the connection between dancers. Learn to lead and follow effectively through proper frame, tension, and communication.
Rhythm & Timing
Understanding the musical structure and maintaining consistent timing is crucial. We’ll teach you to recognize the beat and dance in harmony with the music.
Body Movement
Proper hip motion, weight transfers, and body isolation techniques give salsa its distinctive look and feel. Master these fundamentals for authentic style.

Classes in action
Remember this is just the very start. Think of it as laying really good foundation to a strong building before we can build the house and decorate it. You will start to get it at about week three or four. At the end of your course your class will have gradually progressed and you will start to feel the benefit of more great technique and progress to the dance floor.
There are basic principles and rules in Salsa we must follow as we dance in unison as couples and become one unit and a mirror image of one another.
- First we begin by laying down the foundation of the dance.
- Salsa requires 3 steps in a four beat bar. In other words we pause or tap on beat four or walk walk stop. This is constant through out the dance.
- We must accept that this is the rhythm of the dance Salsa, but it can be varied when one has advanced.
- In the first part of this lesson you learn to transfer your body weight in 3 directions on the spot within the 3 pattern time step. For example, forward, sideways and backwards.
- In the second part of the lesson we break down the 4 basic steps which involves on the spot and slight progression on the dance floor, in 3 directions as mentioned above.
- We finally complete the class with an introduction to a switch turn, not quite a spin yet and this will be discussed in more detail at an intermediate level.

• Our courses require a monthly commitment. If you miss a class, the prices remain unchanged and there are no makeup classes for missed sessions.
• Registration takes place directly at the venue on the course start date.
